There is something quietly fitting about the Swansea Evening Post publishing the obituary of one of its former employees. Mike Harvey obituary of West Cross worked for this paper, and he carried the same warmth into his community life, Mumbles Rangers, the Badgers Cricket Club, that he brought to the family who loved him most.
Mike passed away peacefully at Ty Olwen Hospice on Sunday, 12th July 2026, aged 84. He was the beloved husband of Val, the much-loved father of Matthew and Jo, the cherished father-in-law of Ruth and Andy, and the proud and doting Bampa to Tom, Bethan, Sophie, Sam and Kate.

A Man of Community
Mike was a loyal member of Mumbles Rangers Football Club and the Badgers Cricket Club — two organisations that will feel his absence in the particular way that comes when someone who was always there is suddenly not.
His family describe his kindness, humour and warm nature as the qualities that defined him, and those who knew him through sport and through his years at the Evening Post will recognise that description immediately.
The Family at the Centre of It All
Above all else, Mike was a devoted family man. Val, Matthew, Jo, Ruth, Andy and Tom, Bethan, Sophie, Sam and Kate. For whom he was Bampa were the real heart of everything. Five grandchildren and a marriage to Val that sat at the foundation of a full and well-lived 84 years.
