A Farewell to Gerwyn Thomas
Emrys Gerwyn Thomas obituary of Swansea passed away peacefully on 12th May 2026 at Morriston Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was 77 years old, born on 23rd February 1949. Known as Gerwyn to those who loved him, he was a devoted husband, a much-loved father, a cherished father-in-law, and a proud Dadcu, and a man whose passion for Welsh rugby and the Scarlets was woven into the very fabric of who he was.
His passing has brought sadness to family, friends, and the wider Swansea community who knew him as a loyal family man and passionate supporter of Welsh rugby.
Wear a Touch of Red in His Memory
In one of the most personal and fitting requests in any recent Swansea funeral notice, Gerwyn’s family has asked that guests wear a touch of red, in celebration of his life and his lifelong love of Welsh rugby and the Scarlets.
It is the kind of request that tells you everything about the man. Gerwyn did not just follow the Scarlets. He loved them. The red jersey was not a hobby, it was an identity. And his family want his farewell to reflect exactly that.
The Family He Loved Most
Beloved Husband of Annwen
Gerwyn was the beloved husband of Annwen. Together, Gerwyn and Annwen built a family life rooted in love, loyalty, and unwavering support for one another. And Annwen’s loss is one those who knew them will feel profoundly alongside her.
Devoted Father and Father-in-Law
He is survived by his children Emma and Jason, and was equally cherished as a father-in-law to Kelly and Rhodri. He raised his family with the devoted, consistent love that those who knew him would immediately recognise as simply, characteristically Gerwyn.
Proud Dadcu of Five
As Dadcu to Tyler, Connor, Shannon, Osian, and Cadi, Gerwyn held the role that brought him the most joy. His grandchildren brought immense joy to his life, and the memories they shared together will remain treasured for years to come. Will carry his warmth, his stories, and no doubt his love of the Scarlets forward with them always.
Friends describe Gerwyn as someone who could always be relied upon for a conversation, a laugh, or a helping hand. His kindness and sense of humour made him a valued part of the lives of many people across Swansea.
