It is with deep sadness that the South Wales Evening Post publishes the death notice of Donald “Don” Strawbridge of Swansea (Abertawe), who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, in the compassionate care of Tŷ Olwen, Swansea’s beloved palliative care hospice, and in the presence of his devoted family. His passing leaves a profound and lasting void in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Don Strawbridge was a proud Swansea man, known across the community not only for his warmth and quiet strength, but also for his many years of dedicated service at BP Chemicals, Baglan Bay,  one of South Wales’ most significant industrial sites. His work ethic, loyalty, and character were hallmarks of a generation that built this region with their hands and their heart.

This Swansea death notice is shared on behalf of the Strawbridge family, so that friends, former colleagues, and the wider South Wales community may pay their respects and join in celebrating a life well lived.

A Life Defined by Love and Family

Don Strawbridge is remembered first and foremost as a family man. He was the beloved husband of Marian — his steadfast companion and partner through life, and the devoted father of Anne, whose love for him was matched only by his own for her. He was also a much-loved father-in-law to Chris, who became a treasured part of his family circle.

Don was a loving brother of the late Margaret, carrying her memory with him always, and an adored uncle to his nephews and their partners, and to his great-nephews and nieces, for whom he was a familiar figure of warmth, humour, and dependable affection.

Don will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, a simple phrase, but one that speaks volumes about the man he was: one who earned his place in the lives of others not through ceremony, but through consistent, genuine love.

Tŷ Olwen: Swansea’s Hospice of Compassion

Don Strawbridge spent his final days in the care of Tŷ Olwen, the palliative care unit at Morriston Hospital that has long been a place of dignity, comfort, and compassion for Swansea families facing the most difficult of times. That Don was surrounded by family in those final hours is a testament to the bonds he had nurtured across a lifetime — bonds that endured right until the very end.

Remembering Donald Strawbridge of Swansea

From his years on the floor of BP Chemicals at Baglan Bay to the quiet evenings at home in Swansea, Don Strawbridge lived with purpose and presence. He was the kind of man who did not seek the spotlight, but whose absence is felt in every room he once lit up simply by being in it.

The South Wales Evening Post extends its sincerest condolences to Marian, Anne, Chris, and the entire Strawbridge family. May Don rest in peace, and may the love of those around him bring comfort in the days ahead.
