Martina Navratilova joyfully declared her victory over cancer, sharing the news on Twitter. Following a comprehensive day of tests at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the tennis legend announced her cancer-free status on Monday.
Expressing her gratitude, Navratilova thanked the medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, proton therapists, and radiation specialists, who played a crucial role in her recovery. The relief she experienced was palpable in her message.
Back in January, the 66-year-old Hall of Famer disclosed that she had been diagnosed with both throat cancer and breast cancer. Promptly commencing treatment, she bravely confronted her health challenges. Previously, in 2010, she had faced a noninvasive form of breast cancer and underwent a successful lumpectomy.
In November, Navratilova detected an enlarged lymph node in her neck, which led to a biopsy and the subsequent discovery of early-stage throat cancer. Despite the hurdles, her determination remained steadfast, and she resumed her TV duties with the Tennis Channel during the Miami Open in March, showcasing her unwavering resilience.
